Data Warehouse ETL Developer
Function: The Data Warehouse ETL Developer has the responsibility for understanding business data requirements and designing, developing and testing technical solutions while ensuring that they meet end user requirements. This person must have strong technical design, development and problem solving skills and the strong ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. This person will participate in the Data Warehouse systems development life cycle for new development, enhancements and maintenance projects as applicable and work with project teams to design, develop and deploy ETL software needed to support a variety of business needs.
Major Job Activities/Duties:
Requirements & Analysis Responsibilities
1.Responsible to investigate, Analyze and understand data contents of source data systems
2.Understands, uses and adheres to dimensional modeling techniques for data warehouse design (Kimball methodology)
3.Research, evaluate, identify alternative approaches, recommend, design and code efficient and effective solutions for challenging problems ranging from small to large work efforts for low to high complexity problems
4.Comply with standards and guidelines related to the design, construction, testing and deployment activities as established by departmental and organizational standard
5.Demonstrate collaborative skills working within a project team of diverse skills and will bring communication skills including oral, written and presentation skills, creativity, and problem solving skills to a challenging environment
6.Understands dependencies and timing issues between source systems and data warehouse operations
7.Works directly with business process experts, BI Analysts, and IT Manager to understand requirements for data warehouse development projects
8.Identify opportunities in processes, system capabilities and delivery methodologies for continuous improvement as applicable
Design and Development Responsibilities
1.Data warehouse dimensional modeling/design and documentation.
2.IBM DataStage ETL development, testing, and deployment for data warehouse
3.Drive UAT activities with business partners to ensure solutions meet business requirements.
4.Oracle SQL Query, DDL/DML script development
5.General data warehouse maintenance and support as required (including off hours as needed)
6.Ensures standard data elements are maintained across all data structures in DW
7.Other duties as required
Off-hours System Support:
1.Provide off hours application support where applicable.
2.May be required to carry a pager or similar device.
3.Upon notification of a problem during off-hours, will stay with that problem to resolution unless the problem has been handed off to another support person who agrees to take responsibility for said problem.
4.If an off-hours problem cannot be resolved it will then be escalated to the appropriate staff resource.
Required Job
Qualifications:
1.Bachelor's Degree in computer science, engineering, information management or related discipline
2.7
years of full Software Development Life Cycle experience
3.5
years practical experience with IBM DataStage development with complex transformationbusiness rules implementation
4.3
years practical experience with writing Oracle SQL queries including complex queries
5.3
years practical experience working on data warehouse projects using dimensional modeling (Kimball methods)
6.Ability to analyze the existing DataStage Code for improvements, enhancements and problem solving
7.3
years practical Experience with TOAD development tools
8.Strong troubleshooting capability/skills
9.Strong communication skills both verbal and written
10.Ability to execute data warehouse tasks in a timely manner with minimal guidance
11.Must possess the ability and willingness to learn, as well as the ability to participate and contribute in a team environment.
Preferred
Qualifications:
1.Experience with Data Warehouse Design/Development in Manufacturing company
2.Experience with DataStage administration and installation/configuration
3.Experience with data quality initiatives utilizing IBM Information Analyzer
4.Experience with Linux Shell Scripting
5.Ability to create detailed technical design specifications
6.Ability to lead walk through of design documents
Job Complexity
Internal Working relationships: Gets overall work direction from Manager Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence, but operates independently in terms of day to day activities. Has a close working relationship with Business Intelligence IT team to define requirements and set priorities for data warehouse development and enhancements.
